Well hello

12 Oct

I have a notion to be a blogger, no I didn’t say a bugger although some may think I’m there already.

I signed up for the blogging 101 course so will cut my teeth on here.  The suggestion is to answer the following questions;

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

Or perhaps more simply who am I and why am I here? I’ll start with that one.

I was about to say I’m fairly average but then I thought who’s to say what is average?  So let’s start again;

I’m an age group triathlete, which if you know nothing of my sport will sound quite impressive but if you know triathlon you’ll know different.  Why am I here?  That’s a fairly close link to the first question in the list above.

Having read a few of the comments on the blogging 101 page ( when the course ran in August) it seems I am not alone in being a bit of an socially anxious introvert, I live in constant fear of being judged and I like the anonymity of blog land.  It’s a chance to air my thoughts, wishes and fears without fear of folk thinking I’m a ‘nutter’ (I know it’s not PC but I have given myself permission to the term when talking about myself).  Yes but why make a public show, why the need to blog in public and not a private journal??  Initially I was going to say I have no idea but as I thought that I was able to think again.  Perhaps I wish to find kindred souls where we can exchange info and tips on our social awkwardness, perhaps I am looking for acceptance, perhaps I think I will keep readers amused and entertained for hours with my tales on an eclectic mix of subjects, a cry for help? ( fairly ineffective if nobody knows who I am), perhaps just a head dump by way of therapy.  I think the latter is closest but why public and not scribbled in a journal?  It feels more of an actual dump when it’s out there than when it’s in a secret book away from the world.

I’m likely to write about much random stuff, hopefully perhaps with some reference to the world of age group triathlon.

I hadn’t really thought about connections but I guess like minded and/or inspirational souls wouldn’t be a bad start.

Blogging successfully for a year??  Not too sure what that would look like but in the main I suppose I have 3 main aims

  • improve my own mental health
  • support and inspire (?) others
  • consistency in keeping it going

I may now have broken the blogging 101 rules, this entry is probably way too long therefore demonstrating that I often don’t read instructions.  Did I mention I like to chat?
